Bacon shortage

Some reports from 2017 suggested that the world should be hit by a shortage of bacon. Stories began to circulate that pig farmers were struggling to meet the demand for bacon, panic spread to social media, and #baconshortage began on twitter.

Then, however, following reports suggested that the source of concern was a report in the United States stating that frozen pork belly stocks were at their lowest level in half a century. But the truth is that frozen reserves are just that - reserves.

The report took another turn when the President of the Ohio Pork Council said: "Today's pig farmers are setting historical records by producing more pigs than ever before - but our stocks are still running out." Distribution and price increases when there is a shortage of fruit and vegetables in our stores.

Eventually, this lie ended when Steve Meyer, vice president of pork analysis for EMI Analytics, literally brought bacon home, telling the New York Times: "It is wrong to suggest that there is a shortage of bacon. There will be a lot of pigs. There will be a lot of bacon."

This lie was focused on ordinary people and especially bacon lovers. Surely this fake news has influenced many people and many of them believed it.
